A Collaborative Masterpiece is the result of a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group, with a staggering investment of approximately 34 billion yuan. The project's official launch took place on November 5, 2010, and construction commenced on April 8, 2011, culminating in the resort's grand opening on June 16, 2016. In a testament to its growing popularity, the resort welcomed over 13 million visitors as of December 20, 2023, setting a new record since its inception.

The resort's iconic "Fantasy Fairy Tale Castle" features a decorative spire topped by a golden peony flower, while the "Twelve Friends Garden" within the "Fantasy Garden" themed area showcases 12 colorful mosaic murals depicting the Chinese zodiac signs.
